PROJECT CONDO: CHOOSING A RUG

While I've been picking out the pieces for our art wall in the dining room, I've been thinking about what type of rug would look best in our space. I want something with a little pop and interest to anchor down the room. Overall, I'm looking for an industrial feel with rustic and vintage elements. I also don't want it to look too feminine or too masculine. Adding in the industrial buffet, end chairs, art wall and decorations will really add a lot to this look, but I'm looking for a perfect rug to compliment the whole space. I'm stuck on three different looks and could use a little advice!

1// Black & White Geometric Rug - I love the classic look of black and white as well as this bold pattern. I also like that this rug won't show spills or stains as easily.

2// Cowhide Rug - I think this option is really interesting. It's not something I would usually go for, but I'm starting to really fall for the rustic vibe it gives off. This might be a good option for cats since it's not woven.

3// Navajo Colorful Rug - This rug has more color and pattern to it then the other two. I think it gives off a nice vintage feel but still fits the coziness of the rustic look.

To get a little visual, here is the current progress of my dining room, with the rugs next to them to get a better overall visual. I think I like all of them?! Thoughts??

I'd love your help on deciding which one I should get! -- OR if you have a favorite rug shops online, please share as well! Thanks for your help! :)

  1. Cowhide all the way. Natural and earthy. Contrasts modern well and transcends time.

  2. I love the third rug, but I really think the first is going to be the most flexible with art and accessories. Gorgeous picks!

  3. I like them all, even the second one. I think I understand what you mean! But I still think I'd go for either the first or the third. If it were me, the third. But I think the first one is pretty too, I just don't think it's so 'me'. But of course, this is YOU ;) so... follow your heart :P

  4. I think the third rug captures all the elements that you were looking for. Rustic, vintage, not too feminine or masculine.

Can't wait to see the final touches come together! :)

  5. The third one is my pick. I think the kitties would love on the first one to much. The cowhide is a little drastic and might be to harsh to pull into the living room. So my vote is the third one. Just right :)

  6. i like them all!! but i think i'd end up with number one. it makes a statement while still being versatile. that's my two cents :)

  10. The black and white geometric rug. I have a orange/white chevron rug in my living room and I love it. I think it matches everything!

  11. I love the look of cowhide, I always thought it was an option I would choose until it came time to rug shop and I actually felt one. Guh. It makes me shudder to remember. Haha, I couldn't imagine stepping on one in bare feet! Maybe I'm just a girly girl, but I couldn't get over the whole HIDE bit of the cowhide.

  13. While they're all so beautiful I'd have to go with 1// Black & White Geometric Rug. It would compliment that space wonderfully. BTW, you have such an amazing space to work with. I'd be so excited to decorate that type of space if I had a chance but I don't have my own place yet :/

  14. I love the warmth that option 3 would bring to the space, while still maintaining a rustic, vintage feel. Option 3, all the way.

  15. Ok so I would say either the kite rug or the cowhide rug. The Kite rug is perfect and gives a more neutral feel, I think you can do 10 years with this rug without getting bored of it! And indeed stains won't show up as quickly as on the other rugs. The cowhide rug however is a bit more special and daring and would complement the room too, but I think there is a chance you would eventually get bored of it.
Oh God, I wouldn't know either! I'm really happy I clicked on the Kite rug link though! The West Elm website is amazing!

  16. I personally don't like the idea of a cow hide on my floor, so it's between the other two for me. I think the geometric rug is beautiful and a very classic design that won't age, but black really shows light pet hair in my experience. The Navajo rug also has a great slightly vintage design and I think it would hide any hairs or small stains very well.

  17. third one! it's so colorful and can make a different in a simple dinning room :)

  18. i love the first one. i rule a heard about choosing a rug once; keep it simple with the design, nothing busy, and to keep it neutral, in color, nothing to crazy. so i think the first or second would both work well in your space, but i personally like the first one. geometric patterns have a way of tying every element in the room well. good luck! also, choose the one YOU love!

  19. i also love Nate Berkus and one of his rules in to get a rug big enough so that even when the chairs pull out they are still under the the rug. that make sense? here is a site you might like...http://www.hsn.com/home-decor/rugs_c-hd0001_xc.aspx?rid=561

  20. The 3rd one is my favorite, so I would chose that one unless you are planning on using black in any of your other rooms then you might want to use the 1st one. The 3rd one is going to pull together all of the browns and make it nice and warm.

  23. All three are like my 3 dream rugs. NO joke, I think you are building the room of my dreams. Obsessed with any of the 3 options! My tiny 600 square foot apartment is all carpeted so a big rug would look a little overwhelming in here, lucky for my boyfriend because I LOVE cowhides and he is freaked out by them :)
I've managed to sneak in a little sheep skin, two antlers, and I just ordered a porcelain beaver skull, and thankfully he can deal with those as replacements for my giant cowhide dreams haha.
